What’s the big deal about the big switch off anyway?

Chances are you might have heard of the ISDN or PSTN switch off, which will take place in 2025. In simple terms, this means that traditional phone lines will be switched off and calls will be made over the internet instead. To make things easier and tackle the jargon, we’ll call this “the big switch off”.

Why now?
2025 might still seem like a fair way off yet, and you’d be forgiven for thinking that action isn’t needed right now. But the big switch off will affect any business or organisation that still uses traditional copper lines to make calls, and you definitely don’t want to leave it to the last minute. In fact, there are already some areas where you can’t purchase a new traditional line.

Where should I start?
It might seem daunting (especially if your current comms solution hasn’t been touched in years) but the good news is that we’re here to help! You’re not on your own. We’ll take care of all the messy stuff and work with you to make sure the big switch off isn’t something you need to worry about. In fact, this is a great opportunity to explore new solutions and see for yourself just how much technology has changed telecoms for the good.

What are the benefits?
If you’re thinking “this sounds expensive”, that’s a pretty normal reaction. But did you know that calls made over the internet will often be cheaper than calls made over traditional lines? In many cases, upgrading early ahead of the big switch off has actually saved our clients money on their regular bills, and they’re now enjoying a whole range of new features too.

What’s next?
The important thing is not to panic and don’t leave things too late as you’ll end up limiting your options. It’s never too early to start a conversation with us about getting ready for the switch off. Once you’ve been upgraded, you’ll wonder why you didn’t do it sooner!
